The 2009 Heart of Ohio Huckfest at Thistledown Field . . . What a Weekend!
The Huckfest began with a few dozen pilots arriving on Thursday. Lots of low-key flying to get things started. On Friday, the action heated up as trailer after trailer rolled into Thistledown Field. Now it was time for some serious huckin', and the pilots were not shy about showing what they could do. Sure, the cornfield claimed a few victims, but it also cushioned those unplanned landings, so the carnage was kept to a minimum.
Later on Saturday, the E-ROC Electric Race of Champions pylon race attracted a wide variety of aircraft, but once again this year the winner flew an AeroCat from Model Aero. Even a super-sleek hotliner couldn't keep up!
And we haven't even mentioned all the rest of the superb flying and gorgeous airplanes that filled the sky from morning til night, right through Sunday afternoon. The weather gods really smiled on this year's event, with 77° and partly cloudy skies for the whole show. Winds remained light all weekend, allowing pilots to bring out their small stuff to join the 30%, 40%, and 50% Giants. The Heart of Ohio Huckfest is organized by the Flying Giants and hosted by the Thistledown Flyers. The Huckfest features all the best of R/C flying, from Giant Scale to electrics to helis — and everything in between. Thanks to the Flying Giants for bringing this terrific event to Thistledown Field. Thanks to all the sponsors and vendors for supporting the Huckfest. Thanks to our club members for showing all of our guests some real Thistledown hospitality. Thanks to the Heitmans for providing a beautiful facility. And finally ... Thanks to the pilots who made the journey to Thistledown Field from around the country and even from foreign lands. Without you, there would be no show! Do yourself a favor: plan now to be at Thistledown Field for next year's event. As always, it will be the weekend after Labor Day, so we expect to see you next September!
Northwest Ohio Pro Bro Fly-In. . . Good Times! August 7, 8, & 9, 2009, brought another great weekend of flying at Thistledown Field. Profile pilots and their planes converged on Napoleon, Ohio, for three days of all-out fun! Check the video below to see what is was all about.
Electricity Was in the Air!. . . at the Thistledown Electric Fly Despite predictions of rain, the weather turned warm and sunny for the first annual Neil Hayden Memorial Electric Fly at Thistledown Field on July 25, 2009. Club member Tom Hayden organized the event in honor of his father, a dedicated R/C flyer. A wide variety of electric flying machines took to the skies, from screaming EDF jets to 3D ships to tiny park flyers. It was a relaxing day of fun, good fellowship, and great flying. In other words, a typical Thistledown event!
