Corky's Corner
Fall 2004

Hello Big Bird Lovers,

I don't know about you, but it has been a VERY busy flying season for me. I've been to a major flying event almost every weekend since the Joe Nall, and it has been more fun than the law allows.

The IMAA Summer Rally was a huge success...thanks to the two great Chapters in Indiana who shared the load. Event Director Ron Pierce did a terrific job of putting on a first class event...even though they got very short notice that their services were required. Thanks Ron...and all the hard working members of Central Indiana Chapter 48 and the Henry County Wright Flyers Chapter 651. One hundred fifty two pilots...and a whole lot more spectators had a great time.

The trip to Muncie wasn't all play, as the IMAA Board had their Summer meeting. Your Board is working hard to build IMAA Membership, and I am doing what I can to see to it that IMAA is working for the membership. This organization is dedicated fun and safe flying of Big Birds, and we want to do anything we can to work for the individual member. IMAA truly is "the People's organization," and we want the focus to be on giving back to the membership in all ways possible.

The initial test of our direct mail marketing program, under the very capable leadership of District III Director Gary Smith was a large success. The is a "re-member" program, designed to encourage former members, who have dropped out, to rejoin the largest AMA Special Interest Group, and get back into the fun. The Board has authorized Gary to go ahead with a National mail program, to reach all of the former members, and get them back into IMAA. You can help with this effort as well. If you know of a former member...or a potential new member...do what you can to encourage them to join!

The next few months are going to be an exciting time in IMAA's history...the Giant Scale Handbook will be printed and available for sale...the IMAA History book will be published, the Winter Board Meeting will be held in conjunction with AMA Convention in Ontario, California, the Winter Rally of Giants will back at that fantastic flying facility in Edinburg, Texas, and IMAA will celebrate its 25th Anniversary at the Toledo Weak Signals Exposition! Imagine that...the organization is a Quarter of a Century old...and I am still just 39. Isn't it funny how time flies?

One quarter of a Century...can you imagine how many laughs...how many smiles...and how many great flights have been flown in that time? Here's to many more!
